Dubuque is located on the high bluffs of the Mississippi River at the Illinois & Wisconsin Borders. Settled in 1788 by French Canadian Julien Dubuque, it would later be named after him when it became a city in 1833. It is also the oldest city in the state of Iowa (and older then Iowa which became a state in 1846), and one of the oldest cities west of the Mississippi.

In 2007 Dubuque was 1 of 10 cities in the nation to win the All-American City Award.
